Theme 13Prayer & DependenceDay 356
On where strength is renewed · Isaiah's vision of comfort

He renews the weary

Isaiah on strength for the faint

In the same passage that promises eagles' wings, Isaiah states the principle plainly: he gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths grow weary and fall, but those who wait on the LORD renew their strength. The renewal is specifically for the faint, the exhausted, the ones with no strength left — God's specialty is giving power to the depleted.

Leaders run out of strength. The demands outlast the energy, and even the strongest grow weary and fall — Isaiah says even youths do. The question is where strength is renewed. The leader who tries to manufacture his own renewal by sheer will eventually collapses; the one who waits on the LORD finds his strength renewed from a source outside himself. Waiting on God is not wasted time; it is how the depleted are recharged. The strength for the next stretch is not summoned from within but received from God by those who wait on him.

Who satisfies your desire with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

The Principle

God’s specialty is giving power to the depleted. Strength for the next stretch is received from God by those who wait on him, not summoned from within.

Isaiah 40:29

He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

Isaiah aims renewal precisely at the faint and exhausted. A leader formed here waits on God for strength rather than grinding out his own. The inner work is receiving recharge from outside himself.

When faint, wait on the LORD for renewed strength rather than digging into depleted reserves. Treat waiting on God as recharging, not wasted time. Lead the weary to the source of strength, not just to more effort.

Leaders try to manufacture their own renewal by sheer will and eventually collapse. The blind spot is not going to the God who renews the weary.

This Week's Practice

Where you are faint, this week wait on the LORD for renewed strength instead of forcing it from your own reserves.

Even the strongest grow weary and fall — Isaiah says even youths do. The leader who tries to manufacture his own renewal by will collapses; the one who waits on the LORD is recharged from outside himself.

When you are faint, do you dig into your own depleted reserves, or go to the God who renews the weary?
