Seek the wisdom you lack
Daniel seeks the mystery's meaning
Facing execution because no one could tell the king his forgotten dream, Daniel does not bluff or panic. He asks for time, gathers his friends, and urges them to seek mercy from the God of heaven concerning this mystery. He sought the wisdom he lacked from the only One who had it.
When the answer comes, Daniel's first response is worship: blessed be the name of God forever; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding. He did not credit his own brilliance. He had asked God for what he did not have, and God gave it.
“He gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to those who have understanding.”
— Daniel — Daniel 2:21 (WEB)
Seek discernment from God for the problems you face. Like Daniel, ask him for the wisdom you don't have rather than pretending you do.
“For the LORD gives wisdom. From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”
Daniel, under threat, sought God for the wisdom he lacked and worshiped when it came. A leader formed here admits what he doesn't know and seeks God for it. He credits God, not his own brilliance, for the insight he receives. The inner work is honest dependence rather than bluffed competence.
Seek God's wisdom for the specific problems in front of you, especially the ones beyond you. Gather others to seek God with you, as Daniel gathered his friends. Resist bluffing a wisdom you don't have. Give God the credit when insight comes, modeling dependence.
Under pressure, leaders bluff a wisdom they lack rather than admitting they need to seek it. The blind spot is faking competence instead of seeking the wisdom only God can give.
Name one problem you've been bluffing your way through. This week, seek God's wisdom for it specifically — and gather one or two others to seek with you, as Daniel did.
Under pressure, leaders are tempted to bluff a wisdom they don't have rather than admit they need to seek it. Daniel, facing death, simply asked God for the understanding he lacked — and then gave God the credit when it came.
What problem are you currently bluffing your way through that you should be seeking God's wisdom for, the way Daniel sought the mystery?
